Lakes Entrance

Off the beach for gummy, taking pilchards, bronzies on fresh slimies, snapper- chasing squid strips and salmon with poppers and flathead abound. Swordfish are being landed offshore. Good sized flathead and bream are being found throughout the lake system. Reports are that flathead are more common along the sandy flats. There are still reports of mulloway being taken the lakes.

Lake Tyers

Prawns are still present in the system, although they are becoming scarcer. Around Cameron’s Arm, anglers are finding bream and tailor, particularly along weed edges and drop-offs, while the nearby surf beaches are producing snapper, especially around tide changes and low-light periods

Mitchell River

The area around the Old Butter Factory is yielding the odd mullet and bream, with anglers having success using vibes worked slowly along the bottom, particularly during calmer water periods.

Tambo River

Around The Cliffs for bream, while Johnsonville is also fishing well, with bream responding best to fresh prawn presented lightly in the clear water

Nicholson River

Bream are along the stretch from the highway bridge down to the river mouth, with local prawn proving effective

Metung

Tailor are actively taking metal slugs and soft plastics on faster retrieves, while good-sized bream are being landed around jetties and other structures, particularly when fished lightly or after dark

Paynesville / Holland Landing

Flathead are being caught consistently on soft plastics and lures over sandy flats and drop-offs, while nearby surf beaches are seeing Australian salmon biting well on squid and other natural baits.

Marlo

Bream are active throughout the system, with Frenches Narrows producing well on sandworm, while the estuary flats are giving up flathead and King George whiting. The Yeerung River is also fishing nicely, producing quality bream in quieter conditions

Bemm River

In the lake, flathead are actively chasing hardbody lures, while bream are also present and responding to both plastics and hardbodies, particularly around structures and drop-offs

Mallacoota

Flathead are feeding well on soft plastics and diving lures throughout the inlet, while the system is also producing solid bream that are taking fresh prawn around snags, jetties

High Country

When crickets and grasshoppers become active, trout start keying in on them along grassy banks. Matching that food source can dramatically improve your chances of hooking quality fish. Walk quietly along the bank and watch before casting—often you’ll see trout cruising under grassy edges waiting for insects to drop
